Jordan, Lebanon and Samoa will once again be able to use the system of tariff preferences
The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has amended the list of developing and least developed countries - users of the unified system of tariff preferences of the Eurasian Economic Union.
This concerns updating the list of states to which the EAEU unilaterally provides tariff preferences in the form of a reduction or zeroing of import customs duties on a number of goods.
The decision taken is based on an analysis of changes in economic indicators and provides for the inclusion of Jordan, Lebanon and Samoa in the category of developing countries - users of the unified system of tariff preferences of the EAEU (before 2021, they were already beneficiaries of the union system).
In addition, taking into account the updated information on the classification of countries by income level prepared by the World Bank, it was decided to exclude the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Republic of El Salvador from the system users, and to revise the preferential status of the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe from least developed to developing.
— Today's decision is a continuation of the consistent work of the EEC on the administration of the unified system of tariff preferences of the Union and will contribute to the creation of conditions for the economic growth of developing and least developed countries, as well as the further increase in trade with them by the EAEU member states, — noted Andrey Slepnev, Minister for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
In order to adapt economic operators to the changing conditions of foreign trade activities, the Decision of the EEC Council provides for appropriate transition periods.
The unified system of tariff preferences of the EAEU is aimed at promoting the economic growth of the least developed and developing countries. The regulation on the conditions and procedure for its application was approved by the Decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission of April 6, 2016, No. 47.
The lists of countries - users of the unified system of tariff preferences of the EAEU were approved by the Decision of the Customs Union Commission of November 27, 2009, No. 130.
The list of goods originating from developing or least developed countries, for which tariff preferences are provided upon import into the customs territory of the EAEU, was approved by the Decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission of January 13, 2017, No. 8.
